Shepherd's Pie main dish Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Shepherd's Pie, sometimes called cottage pie, is a savory dish of cooked minced meat topped with fluffy mashed potatoes, then baked to perfection. This recipe uses fresh herbs of rosemary & thyme mixed-in with carrots, peas and onions. No one will leave your table hungry after this hearty meal!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Mashed Potatoes
  • 1 lb. Ground Lamb (or beef)
  • 1 Onion Grated
  • 4 Carrots Grated
  • 1 Cup Peas
  • 2 Cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 TBSP Tomato Paste
  • 1 Sprig Rosemary
  • 1 Sprig Thyme
  • 1 TBSP Flour
  • 2 Cups Beef Broth
  • 2 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
  • Chives (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place a skillet on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground meat to the skillet once heated, stir occasionally, and brown the meat.
  3. Once the meat is almost cooked through, add in onions, carrots and garlic. Stir to combine.
  4. After 3 minutes stir in tomato paste, rosemary, thyme and flour.
  5. Allow the flour to toast for about 2 minutes, then add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce and peas.
  6. Top with mashed potatoes. Run a fork through the surface of the potato crust to create ridges for added texture.
  7. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Sprinkle chives over top to serve.
