We recommend using elbow macaroni for this classic meal, but cavatappi or penne noodles work great as well. Enjoy all the flavors of melted cheddar and gruyere cheeses that will have you loving this "casserole style" recipe. Very simple dish to cook for Thanksgiving or if you need a fast dinner idea. Serves: 6-8
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Whole Milk
- 2 TBSP Flour
- 2 TBSP Butter
- 2 Cups Cheddar
- 2 Cups Gruyere
- ½ Cups Parmesan Cheese
- 1 TSP Ground Mustard
- ½ Cups Italian Breadcrumbs
- 3 TBSP Melted Butter
- 16oz Cooked Macaroni
- Chives to Garnish
- Salt & Pepper to taste
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Place cast iron skillet on medium heat and add butter
- Once melted and bubbling, add in flour stirring constantly to create a roux to thicken the sauce
- When the roux is slightly blonde in color, add in milk, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Continue to stir to avoid scorching.
- Next add both cheddar and gruyere cheeses gradually, stirring to incorporate. Reduce heat
- Once cheese mixture is homogeneous, add in macaroni and stir to combine well
- Top with parmesan and breadcrumbs. Bake for 20 minutes
- Once the breadcrumbs and parmesan are golden brown on top, remove from the oven. Top with chives to garnish, serve immediately while hot!
